Careers

Build the material that carries information.

We are a small team in Princeton that designs and makes rare-earth crystals, and the instruments that read them, for authentication, medicine, defense, displays and spectroscopy. If you like seeing your work leave the lab and go into the world, we would like to meet you.

$50,000–$68,000 a year

Run nanocrystal syntheses and scale-up batches, characterize what comes out, and keep the lab, instruments and records in order. You are the person who turns a recipe into a reliable product, batch after batch.

What you'll do

  • Synthesize, wash and disperse crystals following documented procedures
  • Measure size, emission spectra and quality on our optical and analytical instruments
  • Keep batch records and quality data clean under our quality system
  • Maintain equipment, chemical inventory and safe lab practice

What we look for

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials or a related field, or equivalent lab experience
  • Careful, organized hands in a wet-chemistry lab
  • Comfort with data entry and following written procedures

Pay

$50,000 to $68,000 a year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits

Health insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; paid time off and paid holidays.

EngineeringOptical EngineerBuild the lasers, readers and instruments that make the light visible.Full time · Princeton, NJ
$95,000–$135,000 a year

Design and build the optical systems around our crystals: authentication readers, mid-infrared spectroscopy instruments, laser and VCSEL engines for displays and therapy. From the first breadboard to a product that ships.

What you'll do

  • Design optical paths, sources, filters and detectors for readers and analyzers
  • Build and align prototypes; characterize sensitivity, noise and stability
  • Work with lasers from UV to mid-infrared, including VCSEL arrays
  • Write the test procedures that move a prototype into production

What we look for

  • Degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering or similar
  • Hands-on optics: alignment, spectroscopy, lasers, detectors
  • Python or MATLAB for data analysis; optical design software a plus

Pay

$95,000 to $135,000 a year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits

Health insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; paid time off and paid holidays.

R&DMaterials EngineerDesign the crystal itself.Full time · Princeton, NJ
$90,000–$130,000 a year

Choose the host, the ions, the size and the shell that give each application its light. Develop new compositions with the R&D team, then make them reproducible and scalable.

What you'll do

  • Design and synthesize rare-earth and core–shell nanocrystals
  • Tune emission color, lifetime and brightness for each application
  • Develop surface chemistries for inks, polymers and biological use
  • Characterize with XRD, electron microscopy and spectroscopy, and document the process

What we look for

  • Degree in materials science, chemistry or chemical engineering; graduate degree a plus
  • Nanomaterials synthesis and characterization experience
  • Curiosity about light: luminescence, upconversion or photonics

Pay

$90,000 to $130,000 a year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits

Health insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; paid time off and paid holidays.

What you'll do

  • Formulate inkjet, flexo, gravure, screen and offset inks and varnishes with IMS crystals
  • Disperse crystals into polymers and masterbatches without losing their signal
  • Run print and coating trials; test adhesion, rub, light and wash resistance
  • Support customers and partners on press and on the line

What we look for

  • Experience in printing inks, coatings or polymer compounding
  • Understanding of dispersion, rheology and print processes
